Le Havre

26/7 - 30/7, 2024

Fécamp - Le Havre

  • Again a little more swell than the various aps were predicting
  • Alla was not so happy about it
  • However, light winds and current in our back most of the time
  • Le Havre is a large, modern marina with good facilities and 24/7 access (floating pontoons)
  • A large cruise ship leaving the port  right in our nose made our arrival a little nerve wrecking  - had good support from the harbour master over VHF, though

Le Havre was flattened by WWII bombings, so all buildings are 'new' and the architecture is still an item of discussions for the locals - a lot of concrete.

The picture shows the church with a tower that looks like empire state building!

Nearby Honfleur is, however, very well reputed for its original old town, but also very crowded during the holiday seaon (now). Besides, the lock at the entrance to the old port is notoriously tricky.

So we stayed in Le Havre and visited Honfleur by bus. Must say, that it deserves its fame. Very nice place.
