Cherbourg en Cotentin

10/8 - 17/8, 2024

Saint Vaast - Cherbourg

  • Smooth sailing and quite a short trip round the peninsula
  • We had arrangements that demanded us to be in Cherbourg on 15/8, the latest - so we arrived in due time, leaving long time to discover the city

A very interesting spot, La Cité de la Mer, right next to the marina. It features a Titanic display (as Cherbourg was last stop for Titanic) and a French nuclear submarine from the sixties.

The Titanic thing was only vaguely intersting whereas the sub was really good stuff (at leat to Claus)

A visit to a nearby very picturesque castle - free entry :-)

Cherbourg was yet another another milestone.

We had arranged that Alla disembarked in Cherbourg for a couple of weeks for visiting family and friends in Riga, and having short break from sailing.

So we rented a car to bring her to Paris Charles-de-Gaulle airport.

There I pick up John and Peter that kindly had agreed to help sailing Sakura to La Rochelle
