South Frisian German Islands

16/6-20/6 2024

Cuxhaven-Langeoog-Borkum

  • Cuxhaven to Langeoog, longest leg of the journey till now, 58 Nautical Miles, only one night stop-over in Langeoog
  • Langeoog to Borkum next day
  • We had benefit of light winds and the current and could travel far both days
  • Borkum was the last destination in Germany
  • However, we learned that the planned canal  route through Northern Holland was blocked at Groningen - so we had to change plans
  • Instead of entering the Dutch canals at Delfzij, we will pass another couple of Frisian Islands (this time Dutch) and enter the canals at Schiermonikoog

This very maritime-looking restaurant saved our lives, offering some good 'homecoocked style' meals, saved our lives - as we were very tired and hungry arriving at Borkum

Water depth in Langeoog marina at low-water was only 1 m. The keel sinks into the mud, so no harm done - but our first time!!!

Luckily, low-water was during the night and we slept happily without noticing anything.

Borkum turned out to be a nicer place than expected.

We had a lovely relaxing day here, enjoying the sun and doing our groceries shopping.

The pictures are a little misleading. Although sunny, the wind was only 16 degrees.

The dots in the back are seals - they also enjoyed life on Borkum.

However, not a beach for swimming!!
